Bow Ties

Tips about bow-ties

A bow-tie easily replaces a regular necktie on any occasion.

Bow-ties have a very long history, how is that for a conversation starter?

Because of their compact size, bow-ties can be quite extravagant in solid colours, stripes and polka dot patterns. Our selection of bow-ties consists of a variety of different colors from black bow-ties to pink bow-ties.

As with neckties, bow-ties must also match your suit.

The rule of thumb for a bow-tie's size is that it should be wider that the outer edge of your eyes but no wider than the broadness of your head.

Tying your bow-tie

Types of bow ties

Here are the various types of bow-ties.

Freestyle bow-ties - for the connoisseurs

Real men, it is said, tie their own bow-ties. Traditionally, men have been doing that for 400 years and old habits die-hard. That explains the popularity of freestyle or self-tie bow-ties. We offer a full range of classic freestyle bow-ties.

Pre-tied bow-ties - convenience for the busy fashion plates

For those who don't have the patience or the time to spend trying to tie a perfect freestyle bow-tie, they can opt for pre-tied bow-ties that have adjustable straps that wrap around the neck and lock securely into place. It is difficult to distinguish between a properly tied freestyle and a pre-tied bow-tie. And what's more, pre-tied bow-ties are less expensive than the freestyle models.

Clip-on bow-ties

Clip on bow-ties are another alternative available to those who cannot be bothered to tie their own bow-ties. Unfortunately, they tend to easily slip out of position and truly lack a freestyle bow-tie or pre-tied bow-tie's charm.

Unusual bow-tie materials: denim, wood, and cork

When one thinks about the material a classic bow-tie is made from, it is most likely that silk comes to mind. Nowadays, many new fabrics are used including surprising new choices. Under the heading of novelty bow-ties, you can now include denim, cork and wood, with the latter being an expression of our environmental concerns. Click on the materials menu to see our selections.
